Community.
Creativity.
Compost.
Community.
Floristry will never be a solo act - nothing happens without the flowers and those who propagate, cultivate, grow, sell, transport and love them. Fellow florists, clients and collaborators the relationships are what give our work meaning and an audience.
CREATIVITY
The heart of our work. It’s not only about how we arrange flowers, but how we imagine new ways of working with them, how we create new systems, and create a new bold way of thinking. How we integrate and embrace new knowledge and continued respect for seasonality and place.
COMPOST.
Transformation in action. It is a reminder that in the natural world nothing is wasted - that decay is not the end, but just the beginning. Compost embodies the spirit of care, with an eye on the future.
The life of flowers from creation to compost
Pretty Dirty
The Life of Flowers, From Creation to Compost
Pretty Dirty is no ordinary flower book. It's a deep dive into the life cycle of flowers, from creation to compost.
Melanie Cecilia Stapleton, of Cecilia Fox, is widely regarded as one of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand’s top florists. She is also a tireless advocate for making the flower industry more holistic. Pretty Dirty is grounded in Mel’s ethos of Creativity. Community. Compost, and is a celebration of the intersection between nature, beauty and art.
Pretty Dirty is a ode to the life cycle of flowers from how they’re grown to arranging them in fresh and unique ways, to the inevitable decomposing and disposal. It is richly illustrated with beautiful images of flowers in the wild, floral collaborations, both by Mel and her ‘flower folk’ from around the world, as well as stylised images of compost and floral waste that prove beauty is not just in the eye of the beholder. Presented with a flat-lay format and exposed stitching this is a stunning package that reflects the book's innovative content. Mel shares her tips and tricks from a lifetime spent with flowers and feature stories from some of her favourite 'flower folk', from the growers to other florists and those leading the charge on changing this pretty dirty industry.
“There are florists, and then there is Cecilia Fox. Mel’s book is highly evocative, sexy and beautiful, sharing her philosophy, her process and art form, stunningly photographed and bound in a hardback. The hook in the book’s title carries a gravitas of its own, which is bold, visceral and deeply evocative, spiritually and visually.”

Client Reviews
“It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to trust a truly creative mind to produce something so much more beautiful and special than I could have mood-boarded or micromanaged in a hundred years. I felt so proud and at ease on the wedding day.”
— Sonia & Cameron“Mel and her team were simply the best. Even six years after our wedding, I get bombarded with compliments about my wedding. The flowers were a major styling moment. They set the mood for our ceremony and reception. And I’ll always think of how fragrant they smelled while we said our vows near the magnolias! Thanks so much Mel, for going above and beyond for Adem and myself.”
— Cassandra Catic"I just wanted to let you know that the floral you have provided for our New Zealand spaces are absolutely stunning, every space has been curated perfectly and within brief."
